Estamos cientes dos estudos sobre os efeitos patogênicos de certos tipos de comunicação, como os realizados nos Estados Unidos, na Universidade de Palo Alto, em Stanford, sob o impulso de Gregory Bateson e Don Jackson (1964); esses estudos tornaram-se conhecidos na França por meio de duas publicações organizadas por Paul Watzlawick (1967, 1973).
