War and death. A psychoanalytic reading

War and death are two inseparable words.
Death is the inevitable and grim consequence of war, not only of human beings, certainly the most important, but also of human values and of humanity's artistic and cultural heritage.
So why war, Einstein asked Freud in 1932, 90 years ago, generating a correspondence that became famous (Freud, 1933/1976).
Freud discusses the difficulty of appeasing the aggressive impulsiveness of one human being against another human being and making the unifying force of Eros predominate. Psychoanalysis, says Freud, is not ashamed to ally itself with religion when it proposes: “Love your neighbor as yourself” (p. 205). But it is forced to recognize that this is something easier to ask for than to achieve.
What could be this reason that opposes all logic? [...]
