The theory Freud constructed with Psychoanalysis deals with the uncertainty and multiplicity of the clinical field. However, some new associations also support the several current theoretical developments, with greater or lesser convergence into Freud’s model. The undisputable roots on which Psychoanalysis is based are: the concept of the Unconscious, Sexuality, Narcissism, the Theory of Drive and its ends, including the notion of death drive, the notion of repetition, the notion of a posteriori, the model of the transferable and Transference. In commemoration of Freud’s 150th birth anniversary, some questions are relevant: in view of the demands of current medicine, what transformations have been imposed on the model of psychoanalysis since Freud? After all, what unconscious is it about when repetition is not based on the productions (ways of action) of the repressed unconscious? Do we use today the same theoretical/technical resources to address it? In sum, to maintain that Freudian metapsychology still keeps its validity, it is worth wondering what associations are important to bring it up-to-date and enrich it after being discussed by a subjectivity that has undergone deep transformations.
