The author makes a distinction between the perceptions gained from two theoretical models, derived from psychoanalysis and which are in current use nowadays, about psychosomatic disorders. By conceptually focusing on the theory that originates from the Freudian concepts surrounding actual neuroses, some peculiarities are assessed regarding the relationship patients tend to build. In particular, the author emphasizes the role these patients often play when they get into a couple relationship, and also the role they usually play within their family of origin. Finally, the author analyzes the path the patient-therapist relationship may follow, pondering upon some issues related to clinical goals and to the strategy and technique used as therapeutic approach.
