Abstract

The author grants special attention to the concepts OF mutuality, silent communication and crossed identifications with the purpose of articulating the three phenomena, enhancing their interdependence, while constituent of the trust relationships and otherness in the first months of life. Although the mutuality notion is not part of winnicottians contributions, but it precedes them, the fact of having described it from different perspectives and in conjunction with two concepts created by him allowed Winnicott to describe the semeiotic relationship mother-baby’s subtleness and the silent form through which the interactive exchanges will make possible the weaving of the primary subjectivity of the infans during a time in which the speech and the words still don’t constitute the main instrument.
