The catcher in the field of adolescence

This paper offers some reflections about adolescence based on the psychoanalytic reading of “The Catcher in the Rye” by J.D. Salinger. As with Alice in Wonderland and the Diary of a Young Girl, the author sees the main character, Holden Caulfield, as a typical literary example of an adolescent, portraying the essential issues surrounding this stage of life insofar as conflicts (grief, identity crisis, etc) and healthy approaches to life (ability to unravel the world and to fall in love) are concerned.
