Listening and analytic setting

The author develops the ideas of listening and of analytic work, taking the setting as reference and offering two clinical vignettes as examples. The author understands it is necessary that the analytic method be internalized in the analyst in such a way that s/he can follow the recommendations proposed by Freud in his text Recommendations to Physicians Practicing Psycho-analysis (1912) without turning them into fixed rules. For him, we, psychoanalysts, build the setting of our analytic work by functioning in a psychoanalytic way; therefore, he believes that the way we use Freud’s recommendations will be defined according to the personal characteristics of each analyst.
