Abstract

The decline of the paternal function has been taken as a reference to analyze the new configurations of individual and collective pathos since clinical and social problems are attributed to it. This figure that has been in crisis since the beginnings of Modernity, mainly in occidental societies, is now giving way to dilemmas, inhibitions and desertion of the practice of parentality. This work aims to dislodge the discussion from a certain ideal of family configuration to examine what remains irreplaceable in transmission to new generations under the ethic of responsibility and desire.
