“I will die healed”

The clinical presentation of a patient and her severe somatic disorganization (understood as a process of unbinding of the drives) will allow the discussion of several aspects of the illness until the final phase of decease, from the theoretical framework of the Paris school of psychosomatics. It will be described how in the analytic process, sustained by intense transference-counter-transferential movements, a re-binding of the drives can occur and an opening to the “meaningfulness” of illness that we will call “somatization work” will be provided (Smadja, 2013).
