The text presented at the SBPdePA Journey – 2023, we address questions about whether virtual reality and psychic reality can coexist in different mental spaces without detriment to the latter and to human connections, or conversely, whether there is a tendency to escape into virtual reality, as it disconnects individuals from experiencing the frustration that any human connection imposes. We suggest that the impact of technology on relationships lies in the pursuit of instant gratification, creating a generation of individuals who struggle to establish meaningful and committed relationships. This is particularly evident during adolescence, when the search for partners is often postponed due to the desire to avoid emotional dependence. Ultimately, the text suggests that psychoanalysis should pay attention to the changes in subjectivity caused by technology and contemporary culture, and seek to understand how these factors are affecting relationships from the very beginning, the motherbaby relationship.
