Maternal function

Although widely used in psychoanalysis, the term maternal function has an imprecise definition and its use in current society is even more uncertain. This brief study aims to delimit what we call maternal function and what care is involved in it. A question is posed if whether it would be possible to propose another name for this function that would cover different family configurations that, belatedly, have been recognized by psychoanalysis.
