Review of the book A carne e a escrita: um estudo crítico psicanalítico sobre Graciliano Ramos, by Roberto B. Graña

Abstract

My approach to Roberto is largely due to the boundaries between literature, philosophy, psychoanalysis, psychotherapy and psychiatry. Retired from UFRGS in 2012, I started attending short story workshops with João Gilberto Noll (Graciliano Ramos and others) and then literature courses with João Armando Nicotti (Dostoevsky, Tolstoy and others). These three, João Noll, João Nicotti and Roberto Graña, share the ability to welcome. In September 2020, I returned to collaborate in clinical discussions in psychiatry at UFRGS-HCPA. This “started the game” in these demands for literature, philosophy and phenomenology: interviewing and examining patients without the phenomenological-existential approach is not at all welcoming, as it lacks the “present presence and vivid visualization” recommended in more detail by Karl Jaspers (1997).
