Abstract

 

Many thanks to SPBdePA for the invitation to speak about my work within a prejudice clinic, specifically about the impact that homotransphobia and racism have on psychoanalytic practice (i.e., theory, clinical practice, and research), as well as within psychoanalytic institutions. From a North American perspective, it is thought that it is since the death of George Floyd in the United States that political and community reactions have become visible, legitimizing protests against oppressive social systems that prioritize some people over others. In psychoanalysis, we have historically begun to talk about these issues—social justice, racism, oppression—but we have not recognized them from within, from an institutional perspective. We can think about it from the margins, not from within the institution. [...]
