Abstract

A few days after the Board's first in-person meeting in Madrid—in the spring of 2022—Mariano Horenstein came to visit Bilbao. We shared a four-hour journey, during which I drove him back to Madrid on a pre-planned route. As he says, in a red Mercedes. The car is a curious space, where a unique and unrepeatable encounter of intimacy takes place while traveling through different landscapes.
There are ideological issues on which Mariano and I could be considered complete opposites. However, there is something that makes me feel he is like a close and dear brother. We are strangers to each other, but our encounter has been fruitful, and I believe it has helped both of us to uncover previously unknown aspects of ourselves.
