The river, the bridge and the other riverside
a few thoughts about foreigners, boundaries and psychoanalysis

The author proposes the concept of foreigner/uncanny as a way to think the meeting with the radically new of the other and of the self´s other. This proposal implies thinking the radical alterity as the work of hosting the one for whom we have no representative possibilities which recognize him. The author questions the idea of synthesis of the human mind, a question that begins with Freud and, in literature, with the subject of the double and the uncanny. The mind will always be in a conflict state, in which the notion of identity shouldn´t mask the fragile agreements among the parts that don´t synthesize, only coexist in the best way. To think on the oscillation produced by the different “me” that make myself like the different possibilities of tune or out- of -tune with the different patients that we meet in each one of them, make our task much more complex, but also more modest and true.
