This paper aims to stress the concern of the analyst’s vital health in the transferencial/countertransferencial relation. The love resulting from the inner struggle between Eros (life pulsion) and Tanatos (death pulsion) is taken as an idea of vitality to the analyst. The concepts of two pre-Socratic philosophers, Heraclitus and Parmenides, helpto define the changing capacity of the human being and to relate the internal death and life pulsions of the analyst and his patient. Some authors are quoted, specially Freud, as an attempt to conclude that manytimes the lack of vitality may be due to a deficiency in the whole inner pulsional structure. Finally, an example of a clinic case shows how the physical failure of the analyst causes a serious damage to the transferencial setting.Downloads
